Galvus Met 50 mg + 850 mg

Tablet

Generic: Vildagliptin + Metformin Hydrochloride

Novartis (Bangladesh) Ltd.

Therapeutic Class: DPP-4 Inhibitor + Biguanide (Oral Antidiabetic Combination)

Indications

Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults not adequately controlled by metformin or vildagliptin alone, or already treated with both drugs as separate tablets.

Pharmacology

Vildagliptin raises incretin hormone levels by inhibiting DPP-4, increasing insulin release and lowering glucagon; metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity. The two complementary actions improve blood glucose control.

Side Effects

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, metallic taste, dizziness, headache and tremor. Liver dysfunction, pancreatitis and lactic acidosis are rare.

Precautions & Warnings

Check kidney and liver function before and during treatment. Stop temporarily before iodinated contrast examinations or major surgery and during severe infection or dehydration. Avoid excessive alcohol.

Contraindications

Severe renal impairment, hepatic impairment, diabetic ketoacidosis or other metabolic acidosis, conditions causing tissue hypoxia, alcoholism, pregnancy, breast-feeding and hypersensitivity to either component.
