Tablet

Generic: Montelukast Sodium

Square Pharmaceuticals PLC.

Therapeutic Class: Leukotriene Receptor Antagonist

Indications

Prophylaxis and long-term treatment of asthma. Relief of symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction.

Pharmacology

Montelukast selectively blocks the cysteinyl leukotriene (CysLT1) receptor. Leukotrienes cause airway swelling, smooth muscle contraction and inflammation in asthma and allergic rhinitis; blocking them reduces these effects.
