Naprosyn Plus 500 mg + 20 mg

Tablet

Generic: Naproxen + Esomeprazole

Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Therapeutic Class: NSAID + Proton Pump Inhibitor

Indications

Relief of the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis in patients at risk of NSAID-associated gastric or duodenal ulcer.

Pharmacology

A fixed combination of delayed-release naproxen, an NSAID that relieves pain and inflammation, and immediate-release esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor that reduces gastric acid and lowers the risk of NSAID-induced ulcer.

Dosage & Administration

Adult: 1 tablet (375 mg + 20 mg or 500 mg + 20 mg) twice daily, at least 30 minutes before a meal. Swallow the tablet whole; do not split, chew or crush. Not recommended for children unless directed by the physician.

Side Effects

Gastritis, indigestion, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, headache and dizziness. Less commonly gastro-intestinal bleeding, fluid retention and raised blood pressure.

Precautions & Warnings

Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time. Use with caution in the elderly and in hypertension, heart, kidney or liver disease and asthma. Not suitable for rapid relief of acute pain because the naproxen is released slowly.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to naproxen, esomeprazole, other proton pump inhibitors, aspirin or other NSAIDs. Active peptic ulcer or gastro-intestinal bleeding. Severe heart failure, severe kidney or liver impairment. Last trimester of pregnancy.

Storage Conditions

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from light. Keep out of the reach of children.
