Osartil Plus 50 mg + 12.5 mg

Tablet

Generic: Losartan Potassium + Hydrochlorothiazide

Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Therapeutic Class: Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker + Thiazide Diuretic

Indications

Hypertension in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by losartan or hydrochlorothiazide alone.

Pharmacology

Losartan blocks the angiotensin II (AT1) receptor and relaxes blood vessels; hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that increases excretion of salt and water. The two act additively, and losartan lessens the potassium loss caused by the diuretic.

Dizziness, low blood pressure, fatigue, low or high blood potassium, low sodium, raised uric acid (gout), raised blood sugar and photosensitivity.

Precautions & Warnings

Monitor electrolytes, kidney function, blood sugar and uric acid. Use with caution in diabetes, gout, hepatic impairment and the elderly. Not recommended during breast-feeding.
