Capsule

Generic: Ferrous Sulphate + Folic Acid

Eskayef Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Therapeutic Class: Iron & Folic Acid Supplement

Indications

Prevention and treatment of iron and folic acid deficiency, especially during pregnancy and lactation.

Pharmacology

Iron is required for the formation of haemoglobin and folic acid for the normal maturation of red blood cells. The timed-release capsule releases iron gradually, which reduces gastric irritation.

Side Effects

Nausea, epigastric discomfort, constipation or diarrhoea and dark-coloured stools.

Precautions & Warnings

Antacids, tea, coffee and milk reduce iron absorption; tetracyclines and quinolones should be taken 2 to 3 hours apart. Folic acid may mask vitamin B12 deficiency. Keep out of the reach of children, as iron overdose can be fatal in children.

Contraindications

Iron overload (haemochromatosis, haemosiderosis), haemolytic anaemia, repeated blood transfusions and hypersensitivity to any ingredient.

Storage Conditions

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from light. Keep out of the reach of children.
