Fusid Plus 20 mg + 50 mg

Tablet

Generic: Furosemide + Spironolactone

Square Pharmaceuticals PLC.

Therapeutic Class: Loop Diuretic + Potassium-sparing Diuretic

Indications

Resistant oedema associated with secondary hyperaldosteronism, as in chronic congestive heart failure and cirrhosis of the liver with ascites.

Pharmacology

Furosemide, a loop diuretic, increases excretion of salt and water but causes potassium loss; spironolactone antagonises aldosterone and retains potassium. Together they produce an additive diuretic effect while limiting potassium loss.

Side Effects

Disturbance of blood potassium and sodium, dehydration, low blood pressure, dizziness, gastrointestinal upset, breast enlargement in men, raised uric acid and raised blood sugar.

Precautions & Warnings

Monitor electrolytes and kidney function regularly. Use with caution in diabetes, gout, the elderly and with ACE inhibitors, NSAIDs or digoxin. Avoid potassium supplements.

Contraindications

Anuria, severe renal impairment, raised blood potassium, severe low sodium or dehydration, Addison's disease, pregnancy, breast-feeding and hypersensitivity to either component or to sulfonamides.
