Janvia 50 mg

Tablet

Generic: Sitagliptin

The ACME Laboratories Ltd.

Therapeutic Class: DPP-4 Inhibitor (Oral Antidiabetic)

Indications

Type 2 diabetes mellitus, as an adjunct to diet and exercise, alone or in combination with metformin, a sulfonylurea, a glitazone or insulin.

Pharmacology

Sitagliptin inhibits the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), which breaks down the incretin hormones GLP-1 and GIP. Higher incretin levels increase insulin release and reduce glucagon release in a glucose-dependent way.

Side Effects

Headache, upper respiratory tract infection, nasopharyngitis and hypoglycaemia when combined with a sulfonylurea or insulin. Pancreatitis and severe allergic reactions are rare.

Precautions & Warnings

Stop the drug and seek medical advice if severe persistent abdominal pain occurs (possible pancreatitis). Adjust the dose in renal impairment. Use in pregnancy and breast-feeding is not recommended.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to sitagliptin, type 1 diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis.

Storage Conditions

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from light. Keep out of the reach of children.
